CALL FOR PAPERS

Deadline for abstract / paper submissions: 12th January 2015

Goals

The CARS congress is the annual event for a distinguished international community of scientists, engineers and physicians to present and discuss the key innovations that shape modern medicine on a worldwide basis.

Founded in 1985, CARS has played a leading role in medical and imaging informatics for more than 25 years by focusing on research and development on novel algorithms and systems and their applications in radiology and surgery. Its growth and impact is due to CARS’s close collaboration with the ISCAS, CAR, EuSoMII, CAD and CMI organizations.

Following the long term successful cooperation, in many parts of the world, in 2015 these prestigious scientific communities will jointly hold their annual meetings as part of the 29th CARS Congress in Barcelona, Spain.

The CARS Congress Organizing Committee invites you to come to Barcelona in June 24 – 27, 2015, for an extraordinary event in which scientific/medical presentations as well as stimulating discussions will foster new visions on the future of medicine.

At the CARS Congress you will have the opportunity to meet scholars and practising experts in the fields of radiology, surgery, engineering, informatics and healthcare management who have an interest in topics, such as
  • image- and model-guided interventions
  • advanced medical imaging
  • image processing and visualization
  • intelligent operating room of the future
  • decision and action support in surgical management
  • computer aided diagnosis
  • medical simulation and evaluation, and e-Learning
  • surgical navigation and robotics
  • model-guided and personalised medicine
New PACS applications, including IT-infrastructures adapted for the operating room, related results from the DICOM and IHE working groups, but in particular, new methods and IT-tools for modelling the patient and medical processes are increasingly shaping the scope of CARS. Clinical specialties represented at CARS include:
  • Computer Aided Neuro-, ENT-, Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgery, Cardiovascular- and Thoracic Surgery, Gastroenterological-, Gynaecological- and Urological Surgery
  • Imaging and Interventional Radiology
  • Computed Maxillofacial Imaging
  • Computer Assisted Radiation Therapy
  • Image Guided Navigation Surgery
  • Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery
Please note that the deadline for paper and abstract submissions for CARS 2015 in Barcelona is January 12, 2015.

Recent successful CARS congresses have taken place in Berlin, Paris, Tokyo, San Francisco, London, Chicago, Osaka, Barcelona, Geneva, Pisa, Heidelberg and Fukuoka.

We would be delighted to welcome you at CARS 2015, which will take place in Barcelona, as one of the leading cities for medical conferences and a Mediterranean city with a very special flair.

Congress format

The four-day congress consists of invited talks by internationally recognized experts, approx. 200 paper presentations, as well as exhibits and posters. Special focus sessions as well as product exhibits in the industrial exhibition are planned to give participants access to hot topics and new CARS-related products.

Tutorials, workshops and special events related to the above topics complement the regular sessions of CARS and are organized under the auspices of the International Foundation of CARS.

Workshop on Multiscale Digital Patient

Chair: Nadia Magnenat-Thalmann, PhD (CH)
In the framework of the European Marie-Curie MultiScaleHuman project (multiscalehuman.miralab.ch), a workshop on Multiscale Digital Patient is organized to promote collaborative research on this topic. Multi-disciplinary research combining knowledge and methods on multiple scales is an emerging strategy to improve medical understanding and treatment of human musculoskeletal diseases (MSD). The interaction between different research fields opens new venues of scientific thinking and stimulates the development of new technologies. In particular, the links and visualisation of the complex data across multiple scales and modalities in 3D representations are a challenge that requires exploration beyond the traditional boundaries of existing research fields.

Submissions

Extended abstracts or full papers including new methods, devices, systems and applications, clinical studies, position papers, and poster topics for presentation at the congress are solicited. Submissions will be peer-reviewed by members of the CARS international program committee.

CARS follows a two-tier system:
1) Extended abstracts of accepted lecture and poster presentations (typically containing novel work-in-progress results) will be published in the CARS 2015 Proceedings, which will be distributed to all congress participants.
2) Peer-reviewed and after thorough revision accepted full paper contributions (typically containing validated results of original R&D work) will be included in regular issues of the International Journal of CARS. Appropriate abstracts of full papers are also being included in the CARS proceedings.

Authors should send their submissions through the CARS website, see further information and guidelines at www.cars-int.org.
